Meggenhorn Castle in Lucerne, Switzerland

Meggenhorn Castle is a castle in Meggen, near Lucerne. Built in 1868 by Edouad Hofer-Grosjean, it is now considered a landmark and a Swiss heritage site of national significance. It offers viewpoints of Lake Lucerne and the Alps. The castle is for public access and private events, and they often have a robust list of events for tourists.

A small hike will lead you to the statue of Christ the Redeemer at the Meggenhorn which has Christ with his hands outreached towards the lake. Amélie Heine-Kohn from Paris who owned the property was recovering from illness and had the statue made out of gratitude for her well-being.

Cost & Admission

Every Sunday and public holidays from April to October from 12.00 to 17.00. At 2.30 pm there will be a guided tour through the castle. Otherwise, the main living rooms can be visited individually with the audio tour.

The opening hours for the actual castle are rather short. The grounds are open and we went on an off day and hiked around the area.
