Costa Maya Cruise Port in Quintana Roo, Mexico
The Costa Maya cruise port is really built to be just that. A disneyfied version of Mexico with shops, restaurants, a free pool and complimentary beach chairs to lounge on, and more. There are experiences like Aviarius, Kakaw (chocolate tour), mayan healing rituals, and discovering tequila. It is built to accommodate three ships so it can get crowded at times, but a lot of your fellow cruisers might have opted for an excursion away from the port. Beyond all the well packaged signs and amenities, we were also able to see the ocean and enjoy the little pockets of nature.
We were able to peruse the shops, snack on a few items, and saw some entertainment. We saw a wrestling show and Mayan pole flyers. Also known as Danza de los Voladores or Palo Volador this is an ancient Mesoamerican ceremony/ritual where four to five “birdmen” spin around a pole to represent the recreation of the world.
