Las Setas de Sevilla in Seville, Spain

Las Setas de Sevilla or The Metropol Parasol, also known as Mushrooms of the Incarnation, is a wooden structure held up by two concrete columns located in the central Plaza de la Encarnación. From a competition to renovate the plaza, an architect from Berlin, Jürgen Mayer, submitted this design and won. There are six mushroom shaped parasols, said to be inspired by the arches of Seville’s cathedral. Above, the upper level features a panoramic walk and offers amazing views of the city while coursing visitors through each mushroom. Also at the top level is a tapas restaurant and a space for events, shade, and rest for weary travelers. At the main level are shops comprising of the Mercado de la Encarnación market. The basement level has Antiquarium Museum which displays some archaeological remains found at the location. With layers of depth and wonders to discover, this plaza is one of the most unique in Seville. A mix of modernity with the preservation of its storied past.
