The Weekender: December 2022 Edition
December is the holiday season which means Christmas decor, holiday movies, gifts, and family time. I try my best to keep busy as the days get shorter to keep my mind off of the long winter season.
5th Ave & Harry Potter Store
New York City has been closing down a portion of 5th Ave so people can safely see Rockefeller Center and shop without fear of crowds or traffic. It’s funny that I actually used to work across the street from where the ice rink and tree are in Rockefeller Center. I did make an effort to see the tree this year with my husband and my sister. We indulged in a very rich hot chocolate, saw the tree, and got some steps in. I picked up a gift for my practically brother in law (other sister) and kept it simple. Somehow we kept walking and made it to Eataly in Flatiron and ate a nice meal of pasta, pizza, and calamari. I wanted to check out the Harry Potter Store as I’d never been. The place is well designed with tons of goodies for all ages and all uses. They even had Luna Lovegood nail care sets? I was shocked to see an ornament with my last name on it and ended up with a holiday Hogwarts sweatshirt. ‘Tis the season to indulge!
Dinner at Mom’s & Children’s Birthday Party
My mom hosted a friend of hers so it was a lobster feast at her home. The next day, we rested up and attended a dear friend’s daughter’s birthday party. I feel blessed to be able to celebrate those in my life and enjoy their company.
Lysée & Dinner Party
My sister asked if I wanted to go to a dessert shop by a new asian chef. I’m not a huge fan of desserts but I said yes as she said spots were coveted. I’m so glad I said yes. This was desserts elevated. Not overbearingly sweet, well balanced, and exceptional service. I ended up bringing a box of treats to the dinner party that evening with friends. The pasta with gochujang, the salad, and the fried chicken were so good! Also look at that table setting. Exquisite.
Christmas At Home
Christmas is super special to my family. We celebrate the commercial Christmas as we’re not religious. Though, Christmas itself has some pagan roots, so we won’t get into the whole history of things. We love to have our tree and my husband has started a tradition of getting everyone ornaments annually. Our tree right now is tiny and plastic and would have been trash so we adopted it from my sisters. The presents overwhelmed the tree. We go around and each open gifts. My mother often gets greedy and tries to rush people or peep ahead. It’s all in good fun and we love seeing each other’s reactions to gifts we’ve worked month-long to plan for. Danny got me a huge Williams Sonoma gift card and I see they have a new Morris Co. Collection and I’m absolutely obsessed. We ate dinner out and had giant crab.
