The Weekender: March 2022 Edition
Lunch with Friends - The Wild Goose
Covid makes for long stretches of time between seeing friends. Even longer than my introvert self would like to acknowledge. I was able to see a friend, a fellow alum of Hollins, at this restaurant. We both had different but very nicely done burgers. Would revisit.
Lunch with Friends - Bourbon Street
I grew up in Queens, so Bell Boulevard was a place I watched change over the years. Got to see friends who weren’t able to come down for our wedding. I’d previously hosted a work holiday party at this venue, so I knew it well. Though the rooftop bar is now much more well developed. If you’re missing that busy New Orleans vibe, check this place out.
Newport in Two Days
As I’m in grad school again, my vacations are now centered mostly around breaks and such. Newport is not a new destination as I have covered it previously. I did have the pleasure of showing my mom around town and getting to know Newport in a different light. Only two of the mansions, The Breakers and Marble House were open. Since I’ve last visited, they now have audio guides on an app - last time we used headsets and funny devices. It was quiet but then again we were there on a weekday. I did the entirety of the 7 mile Cliffwalk from Easton Beach to Bailey Beach with my mother who was far less winded than I was. For that entire day, we hit more than 10 miles! We also found a nifty little breakfast spot with oatmeal and goji berries, her absolutely daily favorite.
